Mommy

JACKIE SMALL DARVILLE, Executive Director of Mindful Zones, LLC, is a Mindful Schools Certified Instructor. She has received training in the Mindful Schools Curriculum for K-12 students and is a Certified Life Coach. A School Counselor with 31 years in education, she also teaches and presents about Mindfulness In Education for educators, parents and students.  She is passionate about empowering young minds and installs knowledge of empathy, compassion and other core social & emotional skills to students.

Currently she teaches character education mindfulness and self-regulation interventions and facilitates therapeutic groups at Saturn Elementary School in Brevard County, FL.  Jackie is passionate about sharing mindfulness and hopes that it may help all find greater peace and happiness.

Constantly reinventing herself, she is a lifelong learner who loves people and would love to see mindfulness integrated into all scenarios, but especially in education.  She firmly believes that educating youth in the utilization of a healthy self-alleviating approach, will greatly enhance our education system.

Jackie is a Charter Member and current Acting President of Brevard School Counselors’ Association (BSCA) and was a 2017 Florida School Counselor Association (FSCA) Nominee for School Counselor of the Year.  She is currently enrolled in Mindful Schools Year Long Certified Instructor Training Program and is slated for completion in Summer 2018.

Valerie is a practicing Speech Language Pathologist seasoned for over 20 years in providing diagnostic, and therapeutic services to children, families, adults and communities She continues to provide therapy services to the county’s most under-served students (Autism and Severe Communication and Behavioral Disorders) in Brevard County, FL.

Her specialties include speech/language disorders diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment, throughout the lifespan. Autism; social emotional cognitive and executive function skills therapies, pre-school, elementary, and adolescent.

Valerie also specializes in training students, parents, families and teachers, across the life span, in the use of executive function skills for skills management of daily living and in the implementation of functional communication skills, and life skills in social interactions.

Valerie is a Certified Instructor of Mindful Schools and is a Year Long Certification Mentor.

Mel

Melissa has been in the field of counseling for over 15 years, working within various diverse settings such as youth camps, schools, correctional institutions, and private practice. Working with such diagnoses as Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar, Schizophrenia, ADHD, and those who have experienced trauma, Melissa has found ways to integrate the use of mindfulness and deep breathing into her counseling sessions with both youth and adults. As a graduate of Mindful Schools, she is dedicated to empowering others through trainings on mental health and mindfulness.

She is a licensed clinical therapist in the areas of mental health, school counseling, and community health. Melissa holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a Masters in Counseling, and is a Doctoral Candidate in Clinical Psychology. She holds certifications in Crisis Intervention Training (for youth), Mental Health First Aid, and is a Mindfulness Educator.

Melissa is proud of her work with the Brevard Public Schools, Brevard County Sherriff’s Office, Cocoa Police Department, and Space Coast Health Foundation. As an advocate in her field, she remains dedicated to educating and training others about mental health in an effort to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness.
